The Unforgettable Coast of Mexico Beach

A true slice of paradise.

If small-town beach communities are your vibe, look no further than Mexico Beach. With a population of less than 2,000, this Bay County city was discovered around 1941 but began slowly but surely growing into the beach community it is today after World War II.

After being hit by Hurricane Michael in 2018, Mexico Beach and other communities in Panama City have worked hard to recover and rebuild, and continued progress is being made as businesses continue to open and reopen. Real estate in Bay County is hot again, with several Mexico Beach homes for sale.

Exploring the Beaches of Mexico Beach

With five miles of pristine white quartz sand beaches, Mexico Beach is a paradise for water lovers—diving, snorkeling, swimming, fishing, kayaking, and paddleboarding are all popular. The area also boasts diverse ecosystems, including marshes, springs, savannas, and abundant wildlife like dolphins, manatees, alligators, black bears, and sea turtles.

Outdoor enthusiasts can explore Econfina River State Park (4,000+ acres), St. George’s Island State Park with trails and stargazing platforms, ride horses along Cape San Blas, or discover history and nature at St. Vincent National Wildlife Refuge.

Mexico Beach Shopping and Dining Possibilities

Several shops and boutiques in Mexico Beach sell anything from clothing to artwork to sweets and everything in between. Dining options include devouring seafood at Killer Seafood or Shell Shack, feasting on Floribbean food and sipping cocktails at Mango Marley’s, or chowing down on hot dogs at the seasonal food truck Bird Dogs. Other events and activities include Pickleball tournaments every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at the pickleball courts near the City Hall. The Mobile Library visits Mexico Beach residents monthly so they can borrow and return audiobooks, books, and DVDs. And you won’t want to miss the annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony at Parker Park.
